Two or more gem materials cemented together to simulate a single, more expensive stone. Pigment is sometimes used in the cementing mixture to give the gemstone a richer or more valuable color. Doublets are frequent among opals, particularly practiced by placing a thin layer of white opal on a black base to simulate the more valuable black opal. Boublets are considerbaly cheaper than a solid stone of the same size.
