A dome cut resembling a half-bead with a flat face generally supported by gems that don’t have much cleavage. While usually round, cabochons may also be oval or even in the the irregular shapes of hearts or diamonds. Cabochons are usually formed from semi-precious gemstones that don't facet well or aren't of high enough quality to be cut.
